5 Steps to Good Content
Submitted by TWP on Wed 12/1/10 9:33 am
You can rave over keywords and HTML links; you can value pictures at 1000 words--or a million; but without good writing, you're a mime, signaling your message with all your might but never quite delivering it. Here are 5 quick steps to good content:
First, keep your message short. Sure, you can groom the cat, cook gourmet meals, fix the stove, rebuild the entire house and translate Latin. But nobody truly trusts a Jack of All Trades. What one thought do you want your customers to walk away with?
Second, focus on solutions. Your customer is coming to you with a problem; how will you solve it? You deserve to boast about your customer service, your integrity, your years of experience; but what will you actually do?
Third, use words everyone understands, not just the experts in your field. Even experts get tired of jargon. The clearer your language, the faster your readers will grasp your message.
Fourth, provide evidence. Testimonials and case studies (success stories) go a long way to proving that you deliver what you promise.
Fifth, carry your message to your customers. Your customers might find you through an Internet search; an e-mail or snail mail newsletter or press release; social networking sites; brochures or other handouts; or referrals. Don't wait for chance to bring them to your door. Use as many avenues as possible to direct them to you.
