Every now and then I run across a business that asks about bar coding their products. Most of us think of bar codes as the series of lines we find on products we buy at the supermarket or hardware store that are scanned by the clerk at the check out counter. And indeed those UPCs (Universal Product Codes) are common in retail and other consumer businesses. But with the help of the new smart phones and the mobile information movement that is going on across the globe, another type of information coding is emerging as a small business tool with a great possibility of creating better brand awareness and marketing buzz.
