How to Eat Healthy at the Workplace

Birthdays, holidays, business lunches--how do you to stick to a diet or even to healthy choices when the workplace keeps shoving food at you? Here are a few tips to help you:

  1. Keep healthy snacks in your desk drawer, locker and car. Dried fruit and nuts will stay fresh a long time; almonds walnuts and cashews are among the healthiest and contain protein, to help stave off hunger. On the road, apples and carrots make healthy snacks. If your workplace includes a fridge, stock it with yoghurt and cheese.
  2. Don't eat the birthday cake until you get to your office--then ditch it fast. No one will keep track of how much cake you're eating, so don't eat it. You can cheer the birthday workmate and accept the cake graciously without ruining your diet. If throwing out food bothers you, re-gift it to someone who was too busy to come to the party.
  3. Eat before you go. Eat a light and healthy meal before you go to that office holiday party or celebration. When you aren't hungry, it's easy to make healthy choices. Sit as far away as you can from a buffet. The long walk toward seconds will give you time to reconsider.
  4. Order coffee for dessert at restaurants. You'll get a dose of cream and sugar without going overboard.
