If you‘ve envisioned your perfect job and wrote down that vision, now is the time to find it.  Plan the action steps that will take you to your goal. Some steps that have been useful in this process:

*      Polish your resume; if you aren’t sure that it clearly shows that you have the needed skills & would be the perfect candidate for your ideal job, use a professional writer such as Sharon Bailly to help you, or get specific feedback from honest friends & family.
*      Realize that your local Department of Employment Security can be a great resource & offers help in more than just the unemployment compensation; check out what they can do for you.
*      Network, network, network. You’ve heard it said that it isn’t what you know, but who you know. I believe this to be true. Do you belong to any groups? Do these groups hold regular meetings? Networks include: friends, family, former co-workers, Chambers of Commerce, cribbage group, your church, BNI (Business Network International), SHRM (Society of Human Resource Management), VFW, American Legion, PTA, Lions, Elks, etc., etc.
*      If you don’t belong to any specific networks, find meetings & venues that are appropriate. For example, if becoming a librarian or working at a library in some capacity was my perfect job, I would visit my local (or favorite) library, join relevant activities (reading club, Friends of the Library, etc.), or volunteer in some capacity.
*      Take the “we’re in it for the long haul” mental approach. Remember your goal & keep it in front of you.
In my next blog, I’ll share other avenues to get your resume in front of the right people.
