Time Management

Everyone I know has too much to do and not enough time to get it all done. Good time management skills will allow you to better plan your work and work your plan. A simple start is to set a timer for 30 minutes and focus on returning e-mails (or any other specific task). Once you have set the timer, don't let anything distract you so that you can make it a true time study.  See how many e-mails you can 'take off your plate'. My average is about 7 e-mail responses in a 30-minute time frame if they involve a response from me. If they are just going to the delete pile, much less time is needed.  My ultimate goal is to respond to ALL e-mails daily and move them to the appropriate folders for future reference. The blank page of no e-mails pending is almost as satisfying as a clean desk!  If you do this 30-minute exercise several times over the course of a few weeks, it will give you a good idea of how much time you need to budget to keep your e-mails caught up.
